LYNN — Milton R. Leavitt, age 83, formerly of Lynn, died Wednesday in a local rehabilitation center after a lengthy illness. Born in Lynn, he was the son of the late Milton M. and Irene Leavitt. He had lived in Lynn for the greater part of his life, and was a graduate of Lynn English High School, Class of 1951.
Milton served with the National Guard for many years,and had worked as a furniture re-finisher. He loved his daily fishing trips and enjoyed scuba diving, boating, clamming and hunting. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed visiting lighthouses throughout New England and walking the beach. He also played softball, basketball and racquetball.
He is survived by his three children; Karen Linehan and her husband Bill of Kensington, N.H., Carol O’Connell and her husband Dan of Seabrook, N.H., and Gary Leavitt and his wife Christine of Lynn; his former wife; Margaret M. Leavitt of Lynn; six grandchildren; Corey, Ryan and Brice Linehan, Thomas Cunningham, and Michael and Meghan Leavitt; one great-granddaughter; Carissa Bella Cunningham; his sister; Elaine Hammond of Peabody; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was the brother of the late Alice Chasse.
Service information: His visiting hours will be held on Monday from 4-8 p.m. in the SOLIMINE Funeral Home, 426 Broadway (Rt. 129), Lynn. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.
