LYNN — Kandis Onett “K.O.” “Erline” (Nash) Pompie, age 79, of Lynn, died Monday, Nov. 28, 2016, after a lengthy illness.
Born in Lynn, she was the daughter of the late William and Geneva (Haskell) Nash. Raised in Lynn and California, she had lived in Lynn for the greater part of her life.
Kandis was a loving, supportive and no-nonsense mother who did everything she could for her children and children who were not hers by birth. She believed life was more important than work, although we needed to work to get by and live. For all she endured and did for her them, Kandis was her children’s and grandchildren’s Superwoman. She was very generous to her immediate family and other families in need.
Kandis worked in the aircraft division at General Electric, Riverworks in Lynn. She was also a professional seamstress when she was younger, an accomplished artist, ran a silk flower making business and possessed a terrific eye for interior design. She was involved in many community activities including the Community Brotherhood, Head Start, Catholic Charities and the Lynn City Mission. She was also a former member of Order of the Eastern Star and past vice president of the NAACP Chapter in Lynn. She loved gardening, and was involved with foster care for many years.
Kandis traces her “Haskell family” roots back to the Civil War; her ancestors are in the Lynn Civil War Museum “GAR” building. She will be remembered as a loving mother and a generous and good care provider.
She is survived by two sons, Theodore R. Phillips Jr. of Rutland and Joseph M. Phillips of Melrose; four daughters, Denise M. Moore, Linda Adele Phillips, Jackline M. Phillips and Undreea Phillips, all of Lynn; two sisters, Joanne Kilson and Carol Harewood, both of Lynn; one brother, John D. Nash of Lynn; as well as 12 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. She was the mother of the late William R. Phillips and sister of the late Bernice Nash, Virginia Christian, Geraldine Green, Joan Wilhelmsen and Joseph, William and Robert Nash.
Service information: Funeral services will be held in the SOLIMINE Funeral Home, 67 Ocean St. (Route 1A), Lynn on Thursday at 11 a.m. Visitation will be from 9:30-11 a.m. Interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Lynn.
