LYNN — Mary Teresa Ciota, age 90, of Lynn, died Thursday in the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers after a brief illness. A lifelong Lynn resident, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Ida D. (DiLillo) Ciota. Mary was a graduate of St. Mary’s Girls High School, Class of 1944. She also attended Bryant and Stratton College in Boston.
Mary worked as a bank clerk at former Lynn 5 Cents Savings Bank in Lynn for many years until her retirement. She volunteered at Salem Hospital, Catholic Charities North, the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem and the North Shore Music Theater in Beverly. Mary was passionate about donating to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
She is survived by her sister; Anne L. Scheri and her husband James R. of Peabody; her brother; Atty. Joseph G. Ciota and his wife Margaret (Capone) of Lynn; five nieces and nephews; Joseph A. Ciota and his wife Antonietta of Nahant, Toni Marie Chandler of Lynn, Frank Ciota of Lynn, Maria Scheri of Peabody and Carla Scheri of Peabody; as well as five great-nieces and nephews; William, Michael and Daniela Chandler, Gabriele Ciota, and Nicholas Scheri-Armstrong.
Service information: Her funeral will be held on Wednesday at 10 a.m. from the SOLIMINE Funeral Home, 67 Ocean St. (Rt. 1A), Lynn, followed by a funeral Mass in Holy Family Church, Lynn at 11:30 a.m. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Lynn. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 10-11 a.m., prior to the funeral.
