Swampscott — Lillian (Sher) Sugarman, of Swampscott, formerly of Lynn, entered into rest on Aug. 29, 2016, at the age of 100. Beloved wife of the late Sydney Sugarman.
Lillian was a strong believer in education, graduating from Radcliffe College in 1937. In recent years, Lillian was the oldest alumnae at the Harvard Commencement ceremonies. She led a very sociable life with many friends and relatives. She attended The Boston Symphony for nearly 70 years, was a pianist, a member of three bridge clubs, and a long-standing member of the Marblehead YMCA. Lillian loved spending time with family and friends.
Devoted mother of Nancy Cahn and her husband, Arthur, of Carmichael, Calif., and Paul Sugarman and his wife, Karen, of Scottsdale, Ariz. Loving sister of the late Hyman Sher and Sylvia Kramer. Cherished grandmother of Stephanie Cahn and Peter Cahn. Loving step-grandmother of Christopher Jones. Beloved great-grandmother of Wyatt, Casey, Timothy and Brendan.
Service information: Funeral services will be held at Stanetsky-Hymanson Memorial Chapel, 10 Vinnin St., Salem, on Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2016, at 1:30 p.m. Interment will be held at the Congregation Shirat Hayam Cemetery — Beth El Section in Peabody. Family and friends are invited to gather following the interment at the home of Sandy Griffel. In lieu of flowers, donations in Lillian’s name may be made to The Marblehead YMCA, 40 Leggs Hill Road, Marblehead, MA 01945 or to the The Kaplan Family Hospice House, 78 Liberty St., Danvers, MA 01923.
