Daniel K. Bennett, 81

SAUGUS — Mr. Daniel K. Bennett, age 81, of Saugus and formerly of Lynn and Medford, died on Monday, Aug. 1, 2016 at his home.

Born in Medford, he was the son of the late Robert and Margaret (Kier) Bennett. He grew up in Medford and graduated from Medford High School, Class of 1954. He attended UMass Boston and was a veteran of the U.S. Army.    

Dan was a professional singer for most of his life, entertaining in many venues around the country. For many years he sang in the U.S.O. He was also a personal care attendant for Northshore ARC and was the alternative caregiver for Twiggy LeBaron. He also formerly worked part-time at the Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home.  

He was a member and past president of the Inner City Pool League, member of Moose Lodge 1272, Revere, Past Governor of Moose Lodge, Medford, member of D.A.V. Chapter 64, Lynn, and member of V.F.W. Post 507, Lynn. He also served as a coach for the P.V.A. National Wheelchair Olympics.

Dan leaves his significant other, Donna M. “Dee” Whittemore-Farris; a son, Alec Bennett and his wife Heidi of Billerica; a daughter, Michelle Morrow of Medford; three brothers, Ret. U.S. Army Brig. Gen. Robert Bennett of Whitefish Bluff, Mont., Donaldson Bennett of Falmouth and Thomas Bennett of Medford; a sister, Margaret Grow of Wheaton, Ill.; four grandchildren, Brendan and Danielle Bennett of Billerica and Shawn and Nicole Morrow of Belfast, Northern Ireland, and several nieces and nephews. He was also the step-father of Hailey Johnson, the mentor of Cody-Turk Farris, the close friend of Joe Prochilo of Revere and leaves his constant companion, his bulldog Plei-Ku. He was also the brother of the late John Bennett, Alex Bennett, U.S. Army pilot shot down in the Korean War, Jessie Bennett and Jenney Bennett.

Service information: His funeral service will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. in the CUFFE-McGINN Funeral Home, 157 Maple St., Lynn. Burial in Pine Grove Cemetery, Lynn. Visiting hours Friday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. For online guestbook please visit Cuffemcginn.com.
