MIDDLETONRaymond A. Farmer, 78, of Middleton, died unexpectedly at home on July 22.

Born in Swampscott, he was the son of the late Joseph P. and Genevieve Farmer and grew up in Lynn and Swampscott before graduating from St. John’s Preparatory School in 1955 and the Boston College School of Business in 1959.

Ray was a very successful sales executive for 40 years with Infographix Printing Services. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, specializing in artillery, and was honorably discharged at the rank of Captain on Dec. 6, 1968.

He was a member and past President of the Salem Country Club, where he enjoyed being with family and friends for many years. Ray enjoyed traveling and organized countless trips for family and friends throughout his life. His favorite city other than home was Paris, which he visited numerous times.

He was a lifelong Boston sports fan – particularly of the Bruins and Red Sox – and attended many of the region’s most memorable and iconic sporting events dating back to the 1950s. He mostly enjoyed being with family, especially his three beloved grandchildren.

He leaves his wife, Elaine A. (D’Entremont), two sons, Thomas J. and David R., of Haverhill, a daughter, Deborah A. O’Hara and her husband, Mark S. O’Hara, of Hamilton, his grandchildren, Daniel J. and Ellen G. Farmer and Ryan C. Donovan, his brother, Francis X. Farmer and wife, Helen, of Danvers, and many nieces and nephews and grand-nieces and grand-nephews. He was also the brother of the late Joseph C. Farmer.

Service information: Funeral from the SOLIMINE FUNERAL HOME, 67 Ocean St., (Route 1A) Lynn, on Wednesday at 9 a.m., followed by a funeral Mass at 10 a.m., at St. John the Evangelist Church, 174 Humphrey St., Swampscott. Visiting hours will be Tuesday, from 4-8 p.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.
