LYNN — George Psehoyas, age 94, World War II veteran, retired General Electric employee and lifelong Lynn resident.
Mr. George Psehoyas, of Lynn, passed away after a brief illness on Friday, May 27, 2016, at Salem Hospital, having spent the day with his loving family by his side. “Cy” as he was affectionately known, was the husband of the late Julie (Chipouras) Psehoyas. Born in Lynn, and a lifelong Lynn resident, he was the son of the late Peter and Caleroy (Kossivas) Psehoyas.
A proud World War II veteran, George served with distinction in the U.S. Seventh Army’s 63rd Division, 255th regiment, earning the rank of Technical Sergeant. He received two Bronze Stars for gallantry and valor under fire, as well as the Good Conduct Medal and Victory Medal. George was especially proud of the fact that his unit was one of the first to crack Germany’s vaunted Siegfried Line, during the Rhineland Campaign.
George worked for the General Electric Company, in Lynn, and retired after 44 years of service. He was an avid sports enthusiast, and enjoyed watching all the pro teams in Boston. “Cy” was overjoyed to have lived long enough to watch his beloved Red Sox finally win not one, but three World Series. He was also involved with the Wyoma Little League, as a coach and mentor.
George was a lifelong member of St. George Greek Orthodox Church, having sung in the choir as a youth. Generous to the extreme, George doted on his five grandchildren, and particularly enjoyed family gatherings.
He is survived by his two sons, Peter and his wife, Cathy, of Georgetown, John and his wife, Lee-Ann, of Bradford, as well as five grandchildren, Peter Jr., Michael, Matthew, Stephanie and John, a sister, Theoni Dezerene of Saugus, and many nieces and nephews. George was the father of the late Carol Psehoyas. He was the brother of the late Christine Karapas, Nikoleta Mandragoras, Ann Smith, Jean Psehoyas, Charles Psehoyas and Athena Northy.
“Cy” will surely be missed by all whose life he touched.
