BEVERLY — Vasilios Iatrou, age 91, of Lynn, died on Friday, May 27, 2016, at the Essex Park, Beverly, surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of the late Chrisoula (Papalemberis) Iatrou.
Born and raised in Logganikos, Greece, he was the son of the late Nikolas and Georgia (Moustakis) Iatrou. He has lived in Lynn for 32 years.
Vasilios was a self-employed mason for many years and had served in the Greek military during the Civil War in Greece.
A member of St. George Greek Orthodox Church, he also enjoyed traveling and socializing with his family and friends. He was an avid reader and a “walking encyclopedia”; he estimated that he had read 3,000 books in his life.
He is survived by his six children, Nikolos Iatrou of Lynn, Georgia Markos and her husband Nickolas of Lynn, Katerina Voulgari of Germany, George Iatrou and his wife Maria of Lynn, Socrates Iatrou and his wife Pam of Lynnfield and Christos Iatrou and his wife Kathy of Peabody; his grandchildren, Chrisoula Iatrou, Chrisoula Markos and her husband Keith Belucci, Ereni Markos and her husband Dimetris Kordonis, Maria Voulgari, Panagiotis Voulgari, Chrysoula Voulgari, Vasilios Iatrou, Panagiotis Iatrou, Evangelos Iatrou, Vasilios Iatrou, Krisoula Iatrou, Vasilios Iatrou, Elias Iatrou and Alex Iatrou, his great grandchildren, Nikolos and Lysandr Belucci, Georgia Kordonis, Elias Zabras and Christos Spyropoulos, and many nieces and nephews.
Service information: His funeral will be held on Tuesday at 9 a.m. from the SOLIMINE Funeral Home, 426 Broadway (Route 129), Lynn, followed by a funeral service at 10 a.m. in St. George Greek Orthodox Church. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.
