LYNN — A 68-year-old Lynn woman drove her car into a house on Glenwood Road Thursday morning while attempting to turn around, according to Lynn District Fire Chief Arthur Richard.
He said the accident occurred around 10 a.m. when the woman, who was later identified by police as Carolyn Lewis, was trying to turn on the dead end street and accidentally drove into the porch at 46 Glenwood Road.
“It could have been a lot worse,” Richard said. “Nobody got hurt and there was relatively minor damage.”
Lewis was the sole occupant of the 2014 Mazda and did not suffer any injuries, Richard said.
In a brief interview with the Item, Lewis said she lives a few houses down from the accident. She said she was attempting to turn around because she parks on the street.
Richard said the homeowners were not present at the time of the accident.
“They’ll be surprised when they get home,” he said.
Lynn Police Lt. Glenn Dunnigan said that halfway through her U-turn, the accelerator on Lewis’ vehicle got stuck.
“The car was totaled,” he said.
Following a visit by the building inspector inspector, the front door was boarded because the stairs were unsafe, Dunnigan said.
Power to a front porch light was shut off to prevent a hazard, Richard said.
