LYNN — Improper disposal of a cigarette was determined to be the cause of a minor fire at a sober living house in Lynn Friday evening, Lynn Fire Capt. Joseph Zukas said.
According to Zukas, firefighters received a call at 5:21 p.m. for a fire that had broken out on the front porch of a building on Hanover Street.
Responding firefighters were able to get the flames under control by 5:43 p.m., Zukas said.
“The guys made a great save. It could have been a lot worse,” Zukas said. “This was a sober house with about 15 tenants in it, so it could have been disastrous.”
The fire caused moderate damage to the building’s front porch, but no injuries were reported. All of the tenants were allowed back inside the home shortly before firefighters left the scene at 6 p.m., Zukas said.
