Arthur B. Clements, 90

LYNNMr. Arthur B. Clements, 90 years of Lynn, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Friday June 30, 2017. He was the husband of the late Virginia P. (Flint) Clements, with whom he shared over 50 years of marriage. He was born in Ashland, the son of the late James F. and Hazel D. (Burnham) Clements. He was raised in Framingham, Essex, and Swampscott, graduating from Swampscott High School and the Burdett College in Boston, where he studied accounting.

Mr. Clements was a Navy veteran of World War II aboard a destroyer escort as a Seaman Second Class. He was a member of the Rotary Club of Lynnfield. He was a founding member of the Goldfish Pond Association, and always enjoyed the spring planting on the island as well as his wonderful neighbors. He enjoyed gardening and riding his bicycle around Lynn. He was a Mason and member of the Philanthropic Lodge for 44 years, being raised in 1973. He had the distinction of living in his Lynn home for 71 years.

He lived a long and full life which included being a restaurateur for Doane’s on the beach in Swampscott for 35 years and the owner of the Village Room in Lynnfield for two decades. He and his wife Virginia loved to ballroom dance and he taught ballroom dancing at Canessa’s Dance Studio in Lynn. Just prior to his retirement he was a Chef at the Joseph B. Devlin Nursing Home in Lynn. After his retirement he provided care in his home for several disabled men and received an award in 2006 from the Massachusetts House of Representatives for Outstanding Care he provided to the disabled.

Arthur was loved, will be remembered, and sadly missed by, his three sons, Stephen R. Clements and his wife Margaret of Hudson, Bradford B. Clements of New Salem, and Martyn B. Clements and his wife Karen of Essex; his grandchildren William M. Clements of Spencer, Diana N. McMahon and her husband Sean of Hudson, and Nathaniel Clements of Essex, great-granddaughter Hayden Clements of Webster. He leaves his beloved sister Joyce Stretton of Saugus. He was more than an Uncle to loving nieces Laurie Peloquin and her husband Steven of Middleton and Janice Julian and her husband Kevin of Tarpon Springs, Fla. as well as several other nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews. He also leaves several cousins. He was the brother of the late Jane Grant, Edward Clements and Linwood Clements. He also leaves his dedicated caregiver Jay MacGilvary.

Service information: His funeral will be held on Monday, July 10, 2017, at 11 a.m., from the SOLIMINE Funeral Home, 67 Ocean Street, (Rt. 1A) Lynn. Masonic Services will be held on Sunday at 6 p.m. in the funeral home conducted by the Philanthropic Lodge AF and AM in Marblehead Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.
