A commuter rail train, seen from the parking garage, is stalled around 6:20 p.m.
LYNN — A woman is dead after being struck by an inbound MBTA commuter rail train at the Lynn station, police confirmed Friday evening.
The call came into police at 5:57 p.m., according to Lt. Rick Donnelly.
MBTA Transit Police, in a statement, said a white woman who appeared to be in her 40s trespassed onto the tracks, and was struck by the train about 100 yards south of the platform.
The woman, who was not identified Friday, was pronounced dead at the scene. Foul play is not suspected, police said.
Around 6:30 p.m., multiple Lynn law enforcement agencies were on scene, as well as transit police. Police tape was set up toward the Union Street exit, and investigators were seen on the tracks. An inbound train remained stalled at the platform.
Lynn native Jim Smith said North Station was crowded as he tried to make the 6:25 p.m. train home to Swampscott. It was announced over the intercom, he said, that there had been a medical emergency.
Fridays are often an easy day for commuters, the attorney and former state representative said. That was not the case this Friday.
Smith’s train ended up leaving the station around 7 p.m., he said. Down to a single track, there were delays entering Lynn.
Boston to Swampscott usually takes about 23-24 minutes, he said. This time, it took closer to 40.
