Robert J. Ross, 98

LYNN — Mr. Robert J. Ross, age 98, of Lynn, passed away Monday in the Kaplan Family Hospice House after a brief illness. He was the husband of the late Cecile (Desperes) Ross, and former husband of the late Louise (Heigh) Ross. Born in Salem, he was the son of the late Joseph and Louise (LaBonte) Ross. He was raised in Salem and had lived in Lynn for the greater part of his life.

Robert was honorably discharged from the United States Army after serving in Okinawa, Japan, during World War II. He had worked as a machinist for Boston Machine in Lynn until his retirement and had also worked for the former Champion Lamp Works in Lynn. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and he enjoyed traveling with his wife Cecile and also enjoyed dancing. Living close to the ocean he would walk four miles every morning and often would then bicycle another 10-12 miles. He also enjoyed spending time with family at holiday and birthday celebrations as well as other events and cookouts during the summer months.

He is survived by his four children; Robert Ross of Salem, Patricia Worth of Peabody, Kathleen Liberge of Peabody and Richard Ross of Peabody; 10 grandchildren; Shawn Ross, Paul McGrath, Ryan Ross, Brian Worth, Patrick Worth, Dina Hourican, Kerry Fitch, Sharon Casson, Lynsey Ross and Luke Ross; 11 great-grandchildren; Christien, Devon and Jourdan Hourican, Camden and Kailey Fitch, and Ramina McGrath, Karen Reddy, David, Johanna and Aiden Casson and Krystyna Downie; his sister-in-law; Rita Ross; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Thomas Ross, grandfather of the late Jeffrey and Gary Ross and brother of the late Angelina Gurney, Anita Dingee and Joseph Ross.

Service information: His funeral will be held on Tuesday at 12 p.m. in the SOLIMINE Funeral Home, 426 Broadway (Rt. 129), Lynn. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Lynn. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 10 a.m. – 12p.m., prior to the funeral. Directions and guest book at Solimine.com.
