LYNN — Jason D. “Jay” Whitney, age 43, of Lynn, died Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2016, at Union Hospital, following a lengthy illness. He was the son of Carl and Julie (Scanlon) Whitney. Born and raised in Lynn, Jay was a graduate of Lynn Technical and Vocational Institute, Class of 1993, where he played football. He also played semi-professional football with the Lynn Havoc. He worked as a journeyman and carpenter for the Carpenter’s Union Local #40 in Cambridge. He was a sports enthusiast, especially enjoying football and the New England Patriots. Jay was a coach for Lynn Chargers Youth Football. He loved fishing and the outdoors. He was a mentor and inspiration to many people throughout his life. Jay was a devoted father to his four children, Cody, Owen, Autumn and Samantha, all of Lynn. He was the grandson of the late Bruce and Lillian (Swanson) Whitney, and Donald and Margaret (Buckley) Scanlon.
