LYNN — A Lynn man was arrested on gun and drug trafficking charges on Saturday.
Police went to 99 South St. at about 10:30 a.m. to help a parole officer who had discovered a firearm while checking in on Socheat Sok, 30. When police arrived, the parole officer informed them that he had gone there to speak with Sok and that the suspect had fled, Lynn Police Lt. Rick Donnelly said.
The parole officer told police he knocked on the apartment door and was let in by a family member of Sok, who led him to the suspect’s room. Sok was in the room at the time. The probation officer checked the pocket of a jacket in the room and found ammunition. He looked into the pocket and saw a gun, Donnelly said.
The parole officer took the ammunition and firearm. Sok ran out of the apartment, followed by the probation officer, who was unable to catch him. Sok’s description was given to police. Officers secured the firearm and several bags of ammunition found in the room. Police also seized more than 29 grams of crack cocaine, with a street value of about $2,900, and a scale, Donnelly said.
While police and the parole officer were in the apartment, Sok was spotted in front of the building’s door with a friend and was arrested.
Sok was charged with unlawful possession of ammo with no firearm identification card, possession of a firearm with no firearm identification card, unlawful, improper storage of a firearm and cocaine trafficking.
